Lauren Correll Booker
/age: 40 | Owner | One Love Yoga Texarkana
One Love Yoga Texarkana’s owner, Lauren Booker, knows that yoga is a wonderful tool for the mind, body, and spirit. Also an instructor at her yoga studio, she enjoys teaching because it is her passion. “My greatest professional accomplishment is being accepted into a 500-hour certification,” she says. “This is one of the highest levels of being a yoga instructor.”
Since crimes against women and children are on the rise daily, Lauren wanted a way to bring attention to the human trafficking epidemic, so she started a nonprofit organization, Texarkana Against Trafficking. Members of the group place informational posters inside public restrooms, providing outreach numbers for anyone in distress. In addition, the organization helps with tattoo removal for women who have been trafficked (a commonplace tactic that traffickers use to identify their victims). “The more we bring attention to the human trafficking epidemic, the faster we can put an end to this practice,” Lauren admits.
Other than spending time with her husband, Dr. Jim Booker, and daughter, Ashlyn Sander, Lauren enjoys being a member of several local nonprofit organizations, including the Noon Day Lions Club, Friends for a Cause, CASA, and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She also helps provide a scholarship for Texarkana College and serves as a Texarkana Chamber of Commerce ambassador.
Lauren looks forward to being a vital part of making Texarkana a wonderful place to live, and she plans to continue teaching and practicing yoga while encouraging others to experience the benefits of this holistic form of exercise.
