Miranda and Kevin Hughes’ love story is one depicted in romantic novels or films—boy and girl meet and date, boy and girl go their separate ways and build separate lives, boy and girl meet again almost 20 years later and fall in love. Miranda and Kevin’s story follows this trajectory, but includes a twist—twins.

Their story begins after high school in the 1990s. Kevin grew up in Texarkana, and Miranda moved to the community from DeKalb when she was 16. They met at a mutual friend’s house, but life took them in a different direction, and they went their separate ways. They each married and both had two children of their own: Sarah, 23; Trent, 23; Lauren, 17; and Ashlynne, 16.

Over 20 years later and through changes in their lives, Miranda and Kevin met again. The spark reignited, and they dated for a year, then married. One year later, God blessed them with twin boys. “They weren’t planned or expected, but have been the greatest blessings we could have ever received,” Miranda acknowledges. Now age 21⁄2, Kanon and Karson keep the family entertained and very busy. Miranda, age 43, and Kevin, age 48, explain, “We never imagined starting over at our ages, but it’s been the best adventure.”

Kevin owns and operates an internet business that sells survey equipment and supplies, while Miranda works as an RN at CHRISTUS St. Michael’s day surgery. Together, they love to travel, eat good food, and take care of their children. Kevin enjoys fishing, working in the yard, cooking, and spending time with his family while Miranda enjoys spending time with her babies at the park, taking golf cart rides, going to the movies, and much more. Their children are the focus of their lives and their greatest rewards and accomplishments.

Miranda and Kevin recognize the challenges of parenting and thank God everyday for blessing them with each other and their children. “Our life is full of fun and chaos, but we love every minute of it,” Miranda concludes. For the Hughes family, a second chance at love and experiencing the delights of childhood for a second time are beautiful gifts. They feel blessed that they get to live these wild and crazy lives.
