AHS Tennis Pair Upsets Top Seed

AHS Tennis competed Monday at the 5A State Tournament, where doubles pair Garrett Pendergraft and Bryce Jones came from behind in dramatic fashion to upset top seeded Paragould in their first-round match.

After losing the first set 6-2, Jones and Pendergraft refocused in the second to push the set to a tiebreaker, where they were down match point. After saving match point, they pulled out the second set with a 9-7 tiebreaker score. With momentum and a mentally strong attitude, Jones and Pendergraft took over in the third set to win the match 2-6 7-6(7) 6-1. Jones and Pendergraft advanced to the quarterfinals where they ultimately fell to Pulaski Academy’s top team. As a doubles team, Jones and Pendergraft finished the season as a top 8 doubles team in the state, as well as earning 5A South All-Conference honors.

As a team, the Razorback tennis team finished the day in a tie for 7th place in state. Congratulations on a great season Razorback tennis. Pictured l-r: Bryce Jones and Garrett Pendegraft.
