“We are so excited for our newest murder mystery event,” says TMS Curator, Jamie Simmons. “This party will have very Gothic atmosphere inspired by Poe’s The Raven. It will be perfect for Halloween!”
Since 2017, the Texarkana Museums System has hosted Murder Mystery Dinners with a wide variety of themes and settings. Each guest is assigned a character to play during the game. Once the party starts, a “crime” will be committed and each guest is a suspect! Everyone receives instructions and clues that will help them solve the murder. October’s murder mystery theme is Edgar Allen Poe and the setting is a grand ball in the 1950s. Although costumes are not required, they are encouraged.
“Half the fun of murder mystery dinners is dressing up, although it is absolutely optional,” says Simmons. “The 1950s are a fun decade for costumes and easy to replicate. There’s a link to our Pinterest Board on the Ahern Home Facebook page.”
The mystery party includes a catered dinner and prizes will be awarded for Best Costume, Best Actor, and Best Detective. The event will be held at the historic First United Methodist Church, located at 401 State Line Avenue in the Original City Historic District.
“Thanks to the generosity of First United Methodist Church, we will be able to host the mystery dinner in a much larger space,” according to TMS Board President, Velvet Cool. “The architecture of the banquet hall is beautiful and perfect for the theme.”
