TISD Hosts Groundbreaking Ceremony for Parks Elementary

Texarkana Independent School District hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Parks Elementary School on Thursday, October 19th. The ceremony was held at the district’s historic Pine Street site.

The new facility, slated for an August 2025 opening, will serve as the replacement school for both Highland Park and Spring Lake Park Elementaries.

The new Parks Elementary School will provide cutting-edge learning environments equipped with the latest technologies and resources. The new building will also honor the proud history of the schools that it will replace through a traditional architectural style and the incorporation of historical artifacts into the interior design.

TISD Board of Trustees President, Gerald Brooks remarked, “Both school communities will continue to thrive with the merging of these two campuses. Even before the staff and students move into this state-of-the art facility, school administrations from each campus are ensuring that the campuses have established student-centered common culture through the district’s Leader in Me program and Professional Learning Communities.”

TISD Superintendent, Dr. Doug Brubaker, stated, “For a number of years, we have heard from community members how much they would like to see the district reacquire this site and redevelop it in a way that would benefit students once again. Now, it’s happening.” Brubaker also thanked the collaborative efforts of the TISD Board of Trustees, the Imagine 2026 Strategic Planning and Long Range Facility Planning Committees, and the TISD community for their investment into the future of TISD, through the passage of the 2022 Bond. “Without all of this support and hard work, none of this would be possible,” he closed.

The construction of Parks Elementary School is made possible by the district’s 2022 bond program, which voters approved in November 2022 .
