A&M-Texarkana Schedules "The Big Event" Annual Day of Service
/Texas A&M University-Texarkana has schedule the 2023 Big Event “Eagle Pride City Wide” for Saturday, April 1st from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The Big Event, a day of volunteerism and community service, originated at Texas A&M University in College Station in 1982. It has since expanded to other universities around the United States. Locally, the first Big Event at A&M-Texarkana was held in April 2017. The A&M-Texarkana event features dozens of TAMUT students, faculty, staff, alumni, and their families scattering across Texarkana helping to complete projects or perform acts of community service at parks, community centers, non-profit institutions, and small businesses.
“The Big Event is one of the most exciting days of the year,” said A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Emily Cutrer. “It’s wonderful to see so many members of our Eagle family out in the community giving back. We have many student groups, organizations, and athletic teams who provide acts of community service throughout the year. But on this day, we all gather together early in the morning before spreading out across the city to lend a helping hand.”
“The Big Event truly embodies one of our core values—community leadership. The event unites our campus community for one big day of giving back to the Texarkana community,” said Michael Stephenson, A&M-Texarkana Director of Recruitment and New Student Programs. “By participating, our Eagle family has a unique opportunity to share their passions and talents by uniting to give back to the community that provides unwavering support for our university.”
The 2023 Big Event is being sponsored by Farmers Bank & Trust, Ledwell Office Solutions, and Tacos 4 Life.
