Lucille T. Cook earns Lifetime Achievement Award from Hospice of Texarkana

Hospice of Texarkana presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to Lucille T. Cook during the annual Christmas Appreciation Dinner.  Mrs. Cook was honored for being an advocate to her family Foundations and for donating to the nonprofit agency for more than 20 years.  The ceremony was held at the Texarkana Country Club with members of her family and many friends present.

This is the first time that the prestigious award has been given to a donor.  “We wanted to honor Lucille for her generosity and advocacy over several decades,” Executive Director Cindy Marsh said.  “She has been a forward-thinking champion for end-of-life patients by supporting projects that were necessary to expand our services.”

The president of the Hospice of Texarkana Foundation presented the award.  Pastor Larry Sims praised the longtime, local philanthropist for her love of people and for her generous and caring spirit.  Some of the projects Mrs. Cook has supported for the 34-year-old agency include: seed money to begin a Palliative Care Program in conjunction with a local hospital; purchasing a permanent office in Texarkana, Arkansas; supporting the construction of the only freestanding Hospice Care Center in the region; office repairs and updates; and equipment purchases.

A dignified and kind Southern lady, Mrs. Cook has been honored with other awards in the past. She was the recipient of the 2013 Clyde E. Palmer Achievement Award which has been given to a community member by the Chamber of Commerce annually since 1941.  She has also received the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council Leadership Award and Junior League’s Outstanding Sustainer Award. With a longtime commitment to civic service, she was a founding patron of the Texarkana Symphony Orchestra and a Texas A&M Foundation board member. Mrs. Cooks is an active member of First United Methodist Church, in Texarkana, Arkansas.
