Regional Music Heritage Weekend

The Regional Music Heritage Center presented the Regional Music Heritage Weekend March 29-30 in downtown Texarkana. Friday night’s Gala Preview party, “Ragtime to Rockabilly” was held at Silvermoon on Broad. A show featured “Three of a Kind” with Stephanie Rice and Scott Joplin jazz descendant Joyce Grant. The Scottie Award was presented to young Jason Bennett, winner of the 2019 Scott Joplin

Piano Ragtime Competition.

Saturday’s night’s show, “Rock Come Home,” was held in the Municipal Auditorium and featured Pat Cupp and Jimmie Allen together for one last time to perform Pat Cupp’s classic tunes which launched rock n’ roll onto the American stage. Rafael Espinoza and The Rockabilly Railroad performed authentic rockabilly hits. Musical entertainment also featured Stephanie Rice and Joyce Grant. Pianist Natalio Castaneda, the 2018 “Scottie”

Award winner played the “Maple Leaf Rag” with Joyce and the band.

Pat and Jimmie received the Regional Music Heritage Center’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Stephanie Rice received the Young Musician Award which is presented to young musicians the RMHC Board believes are continuing the rich traditions of the region and have promising careers ahead of them.
